The mid and high altitude Northern Mountains are typified by precipitous rocky slopes, high plateaus and deeply incised wadis. The slopes at the mid altitude arecharacterized by a rocky and gravelly surface,the higher altitude consists of dramatic rolling peaks and valleys of exposed bare rock and of vegetation. Plants of note include: Oleaeuropeasubsp. cuspidata, Dionysiamira, Sideroxylonmascatense and Dodoneaviscosa. The high altitude is dominated by Juniperus seravschanica woodland.
