The plant health section is primarily concerned with controlling pests and diseases in our collections. Good plant health, through good nutrition and environmental control, is the first line of defence against both pests and diseases in the greenhouse but even in the best circumstances, problems can arise.
Healthy, sustainable horticulture is the aim in growing quality plants free of unwanted pests and diseases. The use of a sustainable IPDM (Integrated Pest and Diseases Management) approach is crucial in growing plants at the Oman Botanic Garden. IPDM is managing pests and diseases by combining cultural, physical, biological and chemical methods in a way that minimizes economic, health and environmental risks. The aim is to efficiently manage pest populations while lowering dependence on chemical means of control through prevention, observation, and intervention.
