Erect annual herb with reddish stems, up to 1m. Leaves: Alternate, palmately lobed with slightly serrated margins. Flowers: Five overlapping petals with a red centre, borne in leaf axils. Fruit: Ovoid capsule, with a narrow tip, covered in hair. Flowering period: September to November. Habitat: Common in the tall grasslands of the escarpment in Dhofar. Altitude: up to 900m. Uses: The seeds and young pods are eaten raw and cooked when older.
